What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll play a pivotal role within the planning team – leading a range of complex and varied projects, while supporting Directors and Senior Principals across planning, project management, business development and broader office initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Independently manage projects of various types and sizes.
• Providing mentorship, guidance and supervision to a growing team of planners
• Liaising with clients, government authorities and consultants with professionalism and ease
• Preparing fee proposals and tender submissions
• Representing the consultancy in client meetings, public forums, hearings and briefings
• Overseeing timing, outputs and budgets while upholding quality assurance standards
• Contributing to business operations, administration and development activities
• Use your awareness of current economic, social and environmental issues.

What We’re Looking For
We’re searching for a strategic thinker with a collaborative nature – someone who brings both planning expertise and a passion for leadership.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A recognised tertiary qualification in Planning or a related discipline
• Over 10 years of full-time planning experience
• Strong working knowledge of planning legislation, regulation and policy
• Demonstrated experience in project coordination, business management and team leadership
• Eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of Australia
• A current Driver Licence (preferred, but not essential)
• A proactive attitude, genuine enthusiasm and professional drive

This is a great opportunity for an Associate Town Planner to work in a collaborative team reporting to the Project Director. 

Our client works on a vast array of projects that require Development Assessment, statutory and long-term planning input. You will apply your solid understanding of current local and state planning legislation to provide advice on development proposals.

DUTIES

• Take job briefs, run projects, delegate work
• Mentor and oversee the training and development of staff
• Manage and liaise with clients and attend site
• Prepare/manage/review written reports and invoicing developer proposals on town planning advice to various planning issues and planning legislation to support development applications
• Liaise with Councils and other relevant stakeholders
• Build and continue strong relationships with developers, many are repeat clients
• Review supporting documents provided by consultants such as traffic and hydraulic engineers etc

 SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Ideally 10 years plus experience in town planning, with specific experience in Development Assessment/Statutory planning.
• Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or equivalent
• Leadership skills to help guide and grow your team skills
• Demonstrated ability to run projects effectively
• A demonstrated understanding of statutory and strategic planning instruments
• A strong work ethic that involves good written and verbal communication and the ability to apply critical thinking skills
• Previous town planning experience working in a private consultancy and ideally local government would be a bonus
• You must be eligible to work in Australia to apply for this role
